If there’s one thing the unifies the old and the young, it’s the power of rock and roll.

Okay, sometimes the old have to explain to the young why the old think a toy is really cool, but that’s how people grow up. Take the jump and enjoy a quick peek at our brief look at the far too small amount of rock and roll we found at Toy Fair 2010. To be read at maximum volume.

Of course, it’s not just old people who know that the Knucklebonz sculpture above is of the iconic cover to Rush’s 2112. SHUT UP, IT’S NOT.

02 keith emerson

But it’s probably only old people who immediately know this guy here to be Keith Emerson. But don’t feel bad, old people. In about twenty years, high school kids will be talking about LCD Soundsystem as “classic rock” and then it’ll be your turn to laugh. A slow, wheezing, elderly laugh.
And then you’ll have to take a nap right after to recover.

But those high school kids of the future are the youngsters of today. Don’t force them into the seedy world of literature through neglect! Put The Band Mates in their little hands now, and maybe you won’t have to pay for that useless B.A. in Poetry later.

03 the band mates

Look, all we’re saying is that Brian May has a doctorate in astrophysics and is loved by millions, and he’s had a guitar since childhood. We can’t say for sure, but we suspect that growing up with Mike, DJ MC Square, Tom and Axe-L could actually save your child from a career path that could only lead to shudder corporate America.

04 its alive

Head over to The Band Mates website to learn more about this adorable four man group. They’ve got a link to Sonic Youth’s website, how bad could they be?

Of course, there were plenty of toy pianos and little plastic bits of this and that here and there, but that’s not rock, man. Let Rolling Stone cover that mainstream Pablum. Here at Woot, we’re about the music.

Yeah, that’s the stuff. The guys from ThinkGeek were on tour all over the Toy Fair floor, showing off their Guitar Shirt (with belt-hook amplifier and magnetic pick) and their Electronic Drum Kit Shirt with seven playable drums. We said they were one keyboard shirt away from being A Flock Of Seagulls and they reminded us that A Flock Of Seagulls also had a bass player and then they punched us in the face and walked away without looking back. SO COOL.

Hold us closer, tiny dancers. We and the Toy Fair 2010 coverage will be playing… all night.
